Provides understanding of the context and vocabulary of lean manufacturing, including:

Designed for middle school, high school, and community college students and workforce development participants who require a basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles.

Lean Techniques Suite

The Lean Techniques Suite of ten online learning modules is designed to be implemented as a complete study of lean in postsecondary institutions and workforce development initiatives. In business and industry the Lean Techniques suite is intended to educate the workforce on lean methods as part of a lean techniques implementation program.

Introduction to Lean
Introduces the concepts, terms, and application of lean manufacturing principles and practices in the manufacturing process. Provides an overview of the history and evolution of lean, the benefits of lean process, and the role of management in the lean process.

5S          
Introduces principles and methods of workplace organization. Reviews the 5S tool for organizing and maintaining the workplace: Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.

Kanban and Pull/Flow
Defines and describes the Kanban continuous supply system, Push and Pull systems, types, uses, and functions of Kanban, calculating Kanban quantities, and steps for circulating Kanban. 

Visual Workplace
Introduces the lean manufacturing tool of the Visual Workplace. Course topics include visual controls for production and quality, steps for creating a visual workplace, and the use of visual documents. Defines visual workplace, concepts key to a visual workplace, steps for creating a visual workplace, visual production control, visual quality control, guidelines for effective visual documentation, and five guidelines for implementing visual workplace.

Kaizen
Introduces the principles and methods of the Kaizen system. Covers continuous improvement process, the ten principles of Kaizen, Kaizen program selection, Kaizen guidelines, value-added and non-value added processes, and applying Kaizen to the manufacturing process.
